Directorate of Youth
The Directorate of Youth Development is responsible for promoting youth empowerment and socio-economic development through coordinated programmes that enhance skills development, employment creation, health, and social well-being. The Directorate delivers its mandate through two key divisions: Employment and Training and Resource Coordination and Programmes. Its work is supported by key stakeholders, including the National Youth Council (NYC) and the National Youth Service (NYS) under the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service.
The Employment and Training Division focuses on equipping youth with technical, entrepreneurial, and life skills to improve employability and self-reliance. This includes creating awareness of training and employment opportunities, managing youth skills training centres, offering short courses, and providing career guidance and business exposure. The division also promotes youth entrepreneurship, supports rural youth clubs, mobilises resources for income-generating projects, conducts tracer studies, and monitors youth-owned enterprises. Additionally, it educates youth on environmental conservation and facilitates access to resources for business start-up and expansion.
